The right words can transform your communications into a relationship engine.
I don’t believe in filler content or generic updates. Every piece in this portfolio was designed with a specific goal: to move supporters one step closer to a mission. From long-form newsletters to high-stakes appeals, here is how I help nonprofits turn transactional touchpoints into lifelong loyalty.
Nonprofits
My writing has helped nonprofits increase engagement, build loyalty, and drive contributions.
Thrive Grant Services | Building authority through a newsletter
Strategy: Helping the owner pivot her services from one-time projects to a strategic partner.
Relationship shift: We dive deep into the specific challenges nonprofit leaders face. By focusing on high-value, relevant content, we’ve built a foundation of trust that keeps the audience coming back.
Results: 40%+ consistent open rates
5%+ click-through rates
A loyal audience of professionals who view Thrive Grant Services as a potential partner, not just a vendor.
North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre | A human-first campaign with limited resources
Strategy: Leveraging transparency and humanity for a capacity-strapped team with no formal fundraising staff.
Relationship shift: Community theatre is built on connection. We leaned into that by sending pre-campaign emails that focused on transparent storytelling. We didn’t just ask for money; we invited the audience to ensure the stability of a place they loved.
Results: Raised the entire year-end goal on Giving Tuesday alone
Doubled the previous year’s results
Proved that even small teams can see massive ROI when they lead with humanity

Email to Wish List Survey Respondents – Girl Scouts NC Coastal Pines
Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines | A supporter-led appeal
Strategy: Turning a donor survey into a high-conversion holiday wish list.
Relationship shift: Most organizations guess what donors want to hear. I asked. By surveying parents, volunteers, and staff first, we built a campaign based on their priorities. This supporter-first approach made the subsequent holiday wish list feel like a collaborative effort, not a generic ask.
Results: High success rate in renewing and upgrading donors.
Supporters thanked us for asking their opinions and listening to them.

Illuminating Impact Blog: Babysitting Camp – Girl Scouts North Carolina Coastal Pines
I created this series to enhance the council’s storytelling outside of fundraising campaigns. The last volunteer I interviewed said she hoped the it would continue after I left because of what it meant to people there.

RLT Sustainers Landing Page – Raleigh Little Theatre
When I created Raleigh Little Theatre’s recurring gifts program, I turned to one of our most dedicated sustaining givers to help promote it. The theatre still uses this landing page, even though I haven’t worked there for years.

Illuminating Impact Blog: Meet Annette Moore – Girl Scouts North Carolina Coastal Pines
These blogs weren’t just a tool for bringing the impact of Girl Scouting to life. They were fabulous for stewardship. We presented Annette with a framed copy of the post as a gift.
Parenting/Lifestyle
Though my business is supporting nonprofits, a personal passion is using my writing to support fellow parents. Here are a few samples of my parenting and lifestyle pieces.
In the wake of the latest Jurassic World release, I pivoted a personal dilemma (a too-young kid who wanted to watch Jurassic Park) into timely advice for other parents of young kids.
In this lifestyle essay for Business Insider’s parenting section, I shared how having a maiden name that people often got wrong made me eager to take my husband’s name when I got married. I explored the broader social implications of a personal decision, showing I can write a relatable story for a national audience.

Inconceivable! Rediscovering The Princess Bride through my children’s eyes – The Parent Watch
Another example of transforming a personal experience into helpful information. This time, I shared what I learned when introducing my kids to a favorite film to prepare other parents looking to do the same.
