About Lee

A woman with wavy brown hair sits on a wooden bench in an urban outdoor setting. She wears a light brown leather jacket, a blue shirt, and red flats, with a modern building in the background.

My career trajectory has been nontraditional, to say the least. But it’s given me a unique perspective on professional storytelling and audience relationships. I am a nonprofit copywriter and communications strategist who helps organizations transform their communications from a transaction engine to a relationship engine.

But I started out as a musical theatre actor…

When I left NY and got a “real job,” I started writing for nonprofits, where I increased donor loyalty, raised the profile of the organization’s fundraising efforts, and drove contributions from new and existing donors. I used communications to convince and inspire, and I got results.

If you’ve ever worked in nonprofits, you know that nonprofit employees wear a lot of hats. After juggling raising kids and wearing all those hats, I realized that telling good stories and building strong relationships were the only two I wanted to wear. So I left in-house work to go out on my own.

Even though my path has been meandering, there’s been one important throughline: telling stories to build relationships.

I was a drama and history major in college, and I used to joke that I had a double major in memorization. In reality, I had a double major in stories—learning about what the stories we tell about ourselves and how we tell them say about who we are. It was also a double major in understanding what inspires people to act.

I’ve carried these insights throughout my career, and I’ll bring them to your organization. My background in theater taught me how to connect with an audience, my time as a fundraiser taught me how to inspire action and build loyalty, and my experience as a mom taught me how to get it all done on a deadline. Let’s chat about how we can work together.

Some facts about me as a human: I live in North Carolina with my husband and three boys. I met my husband while studying abroad in Ireland (he was a local). I don’t perform much anymore, but I can still hit a high C. And I have two fake teeth.
